INTERNATIONAL WEEK #3
Living Ensemble in 2018,
Design Ensemble in 2019,
Let’s Repair Ensemble in 2020!
Orléans School of Art and Design invites you to participate in the third edition of the INTERNATIONAL WEEK that will take place from April 6 to 10, 2020.
What’s Repair Ensemble?
’Repair ensemble’ is this year’s international workshop theme for 2nd and 3rd-year bachelor students in graphic, product, space and media design. It’s a week of experimentation and exploration of the potential of design to broaden possibilities, push limits further and engage socially. The workshop welcomes worldwide pedagogical experiences, a mix of cultures and thought processes which encourage students to imagine the world differently.
In this fast-paced world, instability is increasing across the global economy, and with signs of resource depletion the call for a new economic model is getting louder. The excessive use of natural resources and an over-abundance of man-made materials have led to major environmental issues.
How can design be an insightful actor to help the world revitalise?
Upcycling, introduced as one of the methods to maintain the environment by creating useful products out of waste or unwanted goods, offers a whole new life to useless materials. Upcycling, the opposite of downcycling, the other face of recycling is totally energy efficient whereas recycling is typically accepted as breaking down and extracting useful materials, making something else but using more energy. However, both processes promote the same benefits to nature. Upcycling and recycling will be two focuses of our international week.
If we can fix a thing, we can also restore bonds, re-connect people, give new hope, acknowledge our mistakes and set the record straight…We can additionally re-introduce biodiversity, reassert the worth of a territory or re-build trust… The act of reparation questions our relation to consumption but also our relations with others. It’s time to reconsider our social behaviour. It will be our third focus.
Let’s repair [recharge, recreate, refresh, regenerate, renew, resuscitate, revitalize, revive] together as an Ensemble!
